A - Z of Information on East Anglia

A: Amazing Hot Air Balloon

In Suffolk and Cambridgeshire there are opportunities to take Hot Air Balloons over the wonderful Countryside where you can see East Anglia from the skies.

One of our Surveyors favourite areas of East Anglia are the Brecks. This stunning varied landscape covers parts of Norfolk and Suffolk and is composed of heathlands, wetlands, forests and dry sand and flint lands. Situated within the Brecklands are the Norfolk market towns of Thetford and Swaffham and also Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk . Our Surveyors have often carried out Building Surveys in these towns and have given advice on issues such as leaking roofs and the dampness caused by them.

B: Bure Valley Railway and Building Surveys

The Bure Valley Railway travels from Aylsham to Wroxham and is the longest steam railway which is located in Norfolk . Train travel starts in April till October where you can take daily rides travelling through the lovely countryside.

Or why not take a train ride on the MNR (Mid-Norfolk-Railway). This is now a heritage railway with steam and diesel trains which run between Dereham and Wymondham. Wymondhams mainline train Station is also worth a visit and has previously won the Anglia Station in Bloom competition. There is also a themed bistro in the station with part of it designed as a train carriage. Over the years our surveyors have carried out Commercial Building Surveys on many cafes, bistros and restaurants in the form of Schedules of Condition and Property Reports.

C: Cromer and Surveyors

Cromer at the top right hand peninsular of Norfolk is a traditional seaside resort with lovely sandy beaches and a pier where you can enjoy a show in the Pavilion Theatre.

As Surveyors we were impressed by the grand Victorian and Edwardian properties in the area. The Victorian pier built in 1901 at a cost of £17,000 still survives today despite suffering damage on three occasions.

D: Dunwich in Suffolk and the Delicious Suffolk Food Hall

Dunwich village in Suffolk was historically a busy city and port until coastal erosion swept most of it into the sea. Today some ruins can still be seen such as the leper hospital and the 13 th century Priory. Nearby Dunwich Heath is a wildlife haven, perfect for bird-watching and is protected by the National Trust.

Suffolk Food Hall is two miles from Ipswich and consists of many businesses selling locally produced delicious food. There is a wide range of food on offer such as meat, fresh fish, vegetables and bread that is baked daily from scratch. After you have finished your shopping you can enjoy a bite to eat in the Cookhouse restaurant that overlooks the River Orwell.

E: Ely and Oliver Cromwell's House

Ely is a Cathedral City in Cambridgeshire not far Cambridge. The small city has many attractions including markets, shopping centres, the Jubilee Park and boat trips on the River Great Ouse. Ely also has over 160 listed buildings with over 20 being Grade I listed.

Holkham Hall was built in the 1750's by Thomas Coke and is a Palladian style Country House located in North Norfolk . It is part of the Holkham Estate. In our line of work as Independent Surveyors we were interested by the architecture of this building.

Holkham Hall is situated just near to the beach with acres of land where you can see the large numbers of deer which inhabit the grounds here. You can visit the Bygones Museum or take a walk around the Walled gardens and at the end of your visit you can enjoy a sit down at the Stables Café or look around the gift shop.

When asked to carry out Residential Building Surveys we are always interested in the size and appearance of gardens which can be a selling point if well maintained and of a good size.
