Buckingham Palace opened in 1703 and is the where the British Monarch officially reside. Buckingham Palace is open for tourists to visit during some months of the year where you can see the State Rooms, Picture Gallery, Changing the Guard and have an audio tour.

C: Canada Memorial

The Canada Memorial is made up of a fountain where water flows over the maple leaves which are Canada's national symbol. The Memorial was revealed by The Queen in approximately 1994 and was designed by Pierre Granche in memory of the Canadians who served in World War I and II with the British forces.

Green Park has great facilities including deck chairs which are available for hire and allow individuals to take in the beautiful views of Green Park.

There are great cycling routes in Green Park where you can view the amazing scenery.

 

F: Fantastic Award

Green Park has received Green Flags which are a national award. Green Park has also been awarded Green Heritage status.

 

G: Green Park History

Green Park used to have Lodges, two Temples and a Library however the two Temples which were the Temple of Peace and Concord were destroyed. In approximately 1668 the Park was filled with deer by Charles II and there were park rangers with a rangers house located in Green Park.

Hyde Park Corner is located near Green Park which includes many Memorials and Monuments such as Jones Monument, Boy and Dolphin Statue and The Australian War Memorial.

J: Just Near To Clarence House

Clarence House opened in 1827 and is attached to St James's Palace where they both share the Gardens. Clarence House was designed by John Nash which has been renovated and is open to the public during August and October.

 

K: Keen To see Memorial Gates

The Memorial Gates are located near Constitution Hill and are made up of four pillars and also called the Commonwealth Memorial Gates in memory of the armed forces of the British Empire. The Memorial Gates were designed by Liam O'Connor and on special occasion such as Remembrance Sunday the gas flames which are on top of the pillars are lit.

 

L: Lovely Spencer House

Spencer House is an 18th Century Private Palace which was built in 1756 to 1766 and a magnificent aristocratic town house in the heart of St James's close to St James's Palace, Buckingham Palace of the Palace of Westminster. From Spencer House's impressive terrace you can take in views of Green Park and enjoy this historic building built by architect's John Vardy and James Stuart.

 

M: Many Gun Salutes

In Green Park there are many Royal Gun Salutes such as in June they are fired to celebrate the official birthday of The Queen. Gun Salutes are fired at the State Opening of Parliament and on Remembrance Sunday.

 

N: Near to St James's Park

Green Park is located near St James's Park which is the oldest Park in London.

 

O: Olympics

The Road Race route went past The Queen Victoria Memorial and Constitution Hill which are located near Green Park. In The Triathlon the Cycle leg also travelled past parts of Green Park.

Q: Queen Victoria Memorial

The Queen Victoria Memorial is located opposite to Buckingham Palace which is approximately 25 metres tall and commemorates the death of Queen Victoria.

 

R: Refreshments

Refreshments are available at points such as the Ritz Corner and the Canada Gate which are from 9am. The Refreshment points offer a variety of food which are freshly made such as sandwiches and cups of coffee.

 

S: St James's Palace

St James's Palace is near to Green Park and is one of the oldest Palaces located in London. St James's Palace was built around the 1530's and was built by Henry VIII; today the Palace is not open to the public.

 

T: The Constance Fund

The Diana Fountain in Green Park was needing repair and The Constance Fund provided money for the replacement which consists of a bronze sculpture of Diana who is with a Hunting Dog.

 

U: Unusual Amounts of Flowers

In Green Park there are no flowerbeds; which means that flowers in Green Park are few due to a tradition which dates back to Queen Catherine. However in spring there are over a quarter of a million daffodils which bloom in Green Park which makes a lovely place to walk through the peaceful Park particularly at the end of a long day carrying out structural building surveys as we are Independent Surveyors.

V: Very Interesting Dominion Gates

The Dominions of Canada and Australia produced Columns and Iron Gates which are located around Green Park. The Gates and Columns are Canada Gate, South and West Africa Gate, Australia Gate, Newfoundland and Malay States which were all installed approximately in 1908.

 

W: Wonderful Canada Gate

The Canada Gate was revealed in 1908 and is positioned where individuals can see the Queen Victoria Memorial when entering Green Park through the Canada Gate. The Canada Gate was designed by The Bromsgrove Guild and in 1905 it was assigned to be part of Queen Victoria's Memorial.

X: Xcellent Diana Memorial Walk

The Diana Memorial Walk travels through four of London's Parks which include St James's Park, Green Park, Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park. The Walk is around seven miles in total and individuals taking part are able to see such sights as Kensington Palace, the Peter Pan Statue, Buckingham Palace and The Queen Victoria Memorial.
