A: Adventure Playground

The Adventure Playground in Kennington Park offers a range of activities and facilities and is free to children between the ages of five and sixteen. Children can play indoors with cookery, arts and crafts or outdoors with sports and gardening.

B: Bandstand

In around 1899 a timber Bandstand opens in Kennington Park which held performances from military bands until approximately 1950.

 

C: Civilian Memorial

The stone Civilian Memorial is made by Maya Angelou to commemorate individuals who were killed in 1940 when a bomb hit an air shelter in Kennington Park.

 

D: Dog Areas

Dogs are allowed in Kennington Park in certain areas and there are designated places where dogs are not allowed. There are two specific areas allocated to dogs being allowed off the lead.

 

E: Eventful Charlie Chaplin Adventure Playground

The Charlie Chaplin Adventure Playground is designed for children between the age of five to sixteen who have disabilities and for their sisters or brothers. There are indoor and outdoor facilities with slides, swings and climbing frames outside and soft play, pool and football tables inside.

F: Football Pitches

There are floodlit facilities in Kennington Park for individuals to play football as well as a seven a side football team who meet on Monday evenings.

In approximately 1977 Bob Marley used to play football in Kennington Park whilst he was recording his album in London .

 

G: Great Café

The Café is one of few cafés left which has an Arts and Crafts style and is open every day each week. The Café offers a range of food such as sandwiches, soup which is made fresh and various delightful cakes. It can be hired for private functions and holds art and photographic events by artists who are from the Kennington area.

 

H: Helpful Friends

There is a group who are Friends of Kennington Park who help maintain and develop Kennington Park by organising events or meetings to preserve the Park. They have helped organise a number of projects such as new benches and the fitness trail.

 

I: Interesting Wildlife Area

There are wildlife open areas in Kennington Park as well as Trails where individuals can explore the wildlife within the park and be informed and educated.

J: Just Close To Kennington Park

Near Kennington Park is St Agnes Church which was built in 1877 and welcomes individuals to each service.

 

K: Kennington Park Extension

Kennington Park was extended in approximately 1920 and this now has become a cricket pitch, community football pitch and the Charlie Chaplin Adventure Playground.

 

L: Lovely Slade Fountain

The Slade Fountain is near the refreshment house which was opened in approximately 1861 with the Oak Shelter built in 1930. The Slade Fountain was established by Felix Slade and is inspired by the Great Exhibition which had various Italian pieces.

M: Many Allotments

There are a number of allotments neat Kennington Park where you are able to grow plants, vegetables and flowers.

N: Nature Trails

There are Nature Trails in Kennington Park where individuals can enjoy walking to each of the eight information stations which are located within Kennington Park . The Trails are designed to inform and educate individuals about Kennington Park with an Activity Pack available which has check lists for individuals to use whilst enjoying the trail.

O: One O'Clock Club

The One O'Clock Club is designed for children of around the age of five and has a range of activities such as reading books, painting and dressing up. There are also outdoor facilities for the children and the Club is open Monday to Wednesday.

P: Playground

The Children's Playground has a range of equipment suitable for different aged children such as slides, sandpits and a play bus for younger children and for the older children there is a climbing frame and a wildlife area.

Q: Quiet Times

Quiet times of the day could be spent reflecting on a park bench in Kennington Park where you can donate a bench in memory of a loved one where a plaque will be designed and placed on the donated bench.

R: Restoration

The Fountain of Life was given to Kennington Park by Henry Doulton in the late 1800's. Sadly in approximately 1980 it was vandalised however a group of friends of Kennington Park raise money to restore the Fountain of Life back to its original glory.

 

S: Skateboard Area

The Skateboard Bowl was opened in 1978 and replaced the netball courts that were in Kennington Park . It attracts large numbers of skaters each

Skateboarding is a great active outdoor activity and one where young people can enjoy a sense of community with this facility they can master their chosen extreme sport whilst enjoying Kennington Park, Lambeth.

 

T: Tennis Courts

Kennington Park has a number of Tennis Courts and there is a coaching facility which provides a five week course or lessons to individuals from the age of five to sixteen. You can play on the Tennis Courts at no cost and do not need to book it prior to wanting to play tennis. Free facilities in London!

 

U: Useful Community Cricket Area

The Community Cricket Area organises a course during the summer which happens every year and offers free coaching to all levels. Individuals can play cricket in Kennington Park and it has three sides at league level.

 

V: Variety of Trees

Kennington Park was the first of a few Parks to allow free access to see the large growing flower beds. Kennington Park has appeals to raise money to restock the flower beds and they have a large variety of trees, shrubs and plants.

X: Xcellent Prince Consort's Lodge

Prince Albert designed Prince Consort's Lodge which was erected for the Great Exhibition of 1851 as a model dwelling. The Prince Consort Lodge was re-erected in Kennington Park where it was used by the keepers of the Park and is home to the charity Trees for Cities.

Y: Young People

There are a large number of facilities for young individuals including basketball hoops, football and basketball areas, cricket and fitness trails.

 

Z: Zero Admission Fees

There is free entry into Kennington Park and it opens and 7:30 am in the morning and closes at different times throughout the year.
