William, who was the Bishop of London, bought the manor of Stortford In 1060 for the sum of 8 pounds; this is how the word 'Bishop' joined with the towns name of 'Stortford'.

Audley End House and Gardens, Saffron Walden, Essex

The Museum began in 1938 and is now a local History Museum having combined with the Rhodes Museum. The Forge Museum at Much Hadham
The Forge Museum is located in Grade II* listed buildings in the village of Much Hadham. In 1811 this is where the Page Family worked as blacksmiths and carried on with this family business until 1983. The exhibits how the crafts of blacksmithing and farriery and how they have evolved. There are also displays about village life including photos and documents and working tools. In the garden you can see an early beeshelter from the 19th century which is rare and also a granery building.
