The town of Borehamwood is in between the M1 and M25 just north of the M1's Scratchwood Corner and M25/A1 South Mimms, therefore having an excellent position with many commuters living in and around the South Hertfordshire area.

Borehamwood is twinned with the French town of Fontenay-aux-Roses and German town of Offenburg.

Borehamwood is most noted for its film studios, which dates back to the 1920s, with the BBC soap EastEnders being filmed there since its first edition back in 1985 as well as many films, documentaries and television programmes.

Borehamwood changed from a small village to a large town after the Midland Railway was built and Elstree Station was opened in 1868 bringing industry to the area and the town duly expanded over the years. During the 1940s and 1950s the town had another growth spurt when it was selected as a place to build new housing as an over-spill for London ; many of the properties were built by the London County Council and later by the Greater London Council. Two markets are held in the town each week on Saturdays and Tuesdays.
