We carry out residential structural survey and commercial survey in Burford. Burford is a town which is situated in Oxfordshire
Taking the A40 from Oxford past Barnard Gate, High Cogges, Ducklington, Curbridge and Worsham is the town of Burford where three counties meet north of Oxford and often known as the southern gateway to the beautiful Cotswolds. The town is very picturesque with many 15 th and 16 th century buildings including the Bear Inn, Crown Inn, Old Bull Hotel and Bay Tree Hotel. Next to the river in Church Lane is the 16 th century splendid four gabled house which was built by Simon Wisdom and was the original Burford Grammer School building, Wisdom also built other buildings in the town and his initials can be seen on these buildings. In the past the town was noted for its involvement in the wool industry with meetings of wool merchants being held in what today is the Tolsey museum in the High Street which is a delightful black and white timber fronted building on stone pillars midway along the main street. Burford Priory, the stunning golden Cotswold stone Jacobean mansion set in 15 acres of beautiful countryside is a magnificent building on three floors with twenty two bedrooms, originally built in the 13th century with many additions over the centuries it has a wealth of architectural features including ornate stone cornices and parapet walls and mullioned, dormer arched and bay windows. The impressive building was originally an Augustinian hospital then a house and in the 20th century home to a community of nuns becoming a mixed community with monks as numbers declined and then in 2008 it was sold as a private dwelling again. The Chapel of St John which dates from the mid 17th century is a stunning Grade II listed gothic style chapel with rosette windows and a barrel vaulted ceiling which was restored by the architect Walter Godfrey, a delight to view as a surveyor whilst visiting the area to conduct surveys.
If you are planning to book a building survey on a property you are purchasing in Burford or the surrounding area then we would like to assure you that we always send a suitably qualified and experienced surveyor to carry out the job. This ensures that you get expert advice on any issues that we may find with the property we are surveying. All our surveyors are members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors - RICS - and are Independent Building Surveyors. Being 'independent' means that they are working for you and you alone; they do not work for a mortgage company or an estate agents, so they have your best interests at heart.
All our survey contain lots of images, clearly showing any problems that we have identified at the property such as woodworm, rising damp or cracking to the walls. We also use sketches in our survey which are aimed at helping you to understand how certain areas are constructed or to help show more clearly a problem that we have identified. You will also find lots of definitions of any building terminology that we may use in our survey, as we firmly believe in 'Plain English' and really want you to fully understand what we are saying in the survey report.
