Information on Cambridge

Cambridge is the County Town of Cambridge. Steeped in history it houses one of the country's most famous universities providing some grand and beautiful architecture. The university was established in 1209 with the oldest college being founded in 1284. Students hail from all around the globe.

Settlements have been recorded in the area since before Roman times and indeed some Roman roads can still be seen today.

Cambridge became a City in 1951. Today it is known as Silicon Fen due to its high-tech businesses and science parks that have been built here.

The River Cam runs through Cambridge and punting is a popular pastime. Another popular activity is cycling, with many cycle paths available.

Addenbrooke's hospital was founded 1766 and remains one of the most prestigious hospitals in the country.

Without doubt the main attraction to the Cambridgeshire area and probably one of the main attractions in Great Britain is Cambridge university buildings and the oldie worldie city centre. In our opinion as surveyors we think the stone buildings make Cambridge what it is. They are almost unnoticed by the tourists as they look into areas of the universities but it is very much the feel of the relatively light golden stone that gives that unique feeling. The workmanship on the larger buildings is stunning such as Kings College Chapel. More recently rather than the stone buildings there has been a spate of modern buildings such as the St John's Innovation Centre, Cowley Road or the Microsoft Research Cambridge Building.

We also want to have a brief mention of the Cambridge Museum of Technology which is quite an unusual building, certainly worth having a look at. We would describe it as industrial architecture. Whilst on the theme of museums it is also worth having a look at the Sedgwick Museum of Geology. If you wish to find out about the history of Cambridge then why not take one of the daily guided tours on offer or if you prefer something a bit more spine chilling then why not opt for the ghost tour!

Cambridge has a fabulous market and a plethora of interesting shops to browse. It has numerous restaurants and coffee shops to relax, unwind and chat over a meal or cup of latte.

There are some fantastic exclusive properties in areas of Cambridge such as Comberton, Stapleford, Great Shelford and Elsworth to name just a few. The independent surveyors at 1stAssociated.co.uk can carry out surveys in Cambridge for you to give you peace of mind that the property you are purchasing is in good condition and does not have any hidden problems.

Building Survey Cambridge

If you are planning to book a building survey on a property you are purchasing in Cambridge or the surrounding area then we would like to assure you that we always send a suitably qualified and experienced surveyor to carry out the job. This ensures that you get expert advice on any issues that we may find with the property we are surveying. All our surveyors are members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors - RICS - and are Independent Building Surveyors. Being 'independent' means that they are working for you and you alone; they do not work for a mortgage company or an estate agents, so they have your best interests at heart.

All our survey contain lots of images, clearly showing any problems that we have identified at the property such as woodworm, rising damp or cracking to the walls. We also use sketches in our survey which are aimed at helping you to understand how certain areas are constructed or to help show more clearly a problem that we have identified. You will also find lots of definitions of any building terminology that we may use in our survey, as we firmly believe in 'Plain English' and really want you to fully understand what we are saying in the survey report.
