- The first recorded reference to Chesham, or Cestreham , was in the will of an Anglo Saxon Queen called Lady Elgiva.
- The town name has two pronunciations, both of which can he heard in the town. The traditional pronunciation is "Chess-am" or "Chezz-um", however since World War II the pronunciation of "Chesh-am" has become more common and is now the usual pronunciation.
