We carry out residential structural surveys and commercial surveys in Chiswick. Chiswick is first recorded around 1000 AD when the area was called ‘Ceswican', which is a Saxon word. The name actually translates to mean ‘Cheese Farm'. This said, there is evidence that the area had people living in it from around the last Ice Age as flint axes and various pieces of pottery and tools have been found in the area. There is also evidence that people were settled in Chiswick in the 9 th -8 th centuries B.C.E and also during the Iron Age as over 100 skulls were found in the Thames and these are thought to be river burials and possibly offerings to Gods.

The Romans also spent time in the area building roads through Chiswick, and the Saxons were also in the area and a Saxon skeleton was excavated and also other objects.

For hundreds of years Chiswick was just a fishing village but by the early 1800s this was in decline due to pollution in the river. Over the following years the High Road started to be occupied with houses along with inns and shops and the population increased. Today the High Road is a busy shopping street with retail outlets, cafes and restaurants which have seating outside, and several 19th century public houses.

The houses in Chiswick are a mixture of Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian. 1st Associated specialise in carrying out surveys on properties built in all these eras and you can download examples of surveys we have carried out in the past from these eras from our downloadable surveys page, we have also put some examples of surveys we have carried out in this region below. Part of Chiswick is in a conservation area which can cause restrictions on alterations to properties.

As you will see from our example surveys below our surveys are detailed documents, which are written in plain english with lots of explanations of building terms and including sketches and digital photos. We write the survey in a way to enable you to understand the problem and how to resolve it. We always give an 'Action Required' for any issues raised and also give you an idea of the Anticipated Costs involved in sorting out any problems we find.
