  • In 1588 John Caius presented the former Manor of Croxley to the College of Gonville and Caius, Cambridge , as an endowment.
  • John Dickinson devised and patented new paper making machinery and in 1830 opened Croxley Mill on Common Moor.
  • The Croxley watermark is still used in writing paper.
  • The 15th century tithe barn was known as "Wolsey's slaughterhouse" named thus because it is said that it supplied the Cardinal's huge feasts held at Moor Park.
  • The great grandson of Madame Tussaud, John Theodore Tussaud, lived at The Hawthorns, 17 New Road , circa 1903-1914.
  • The dog training presenter Barbara Woodhouse who appeared on television during the 1980s lived at Campions from the 1940s to the 1980s.

Croxley Green Skate Park

The Skate Park is located in Baldwins Lane Playing Fields, Croxley Green and is supervised in the school holidays. The jumps and ramps have been designed in a concrete material.

 

Chenies Manor House

henies Manor House was built circa 1460 by Sir John Cheyne and displays furniture from this period and tapestries. The house and beautiful gardens, which have a Physic garden and a sunken garden, are open to the public during the summer.

 

Moor Park Mansion

Moor Park shares its name with the Stuart / Jacobean Mansion built in 1678 / 1679 for The Duke of Monmouth. The property is a Grade I Listed Building and is located near Rickmansworth town centre. It was at this large house that war plans for Operation Market Garden were made during World War II resulting in the Battle of Arnhem.

Inside the property you can view the Venetian decorations and important paintings and artefacts.

 

The Aquadrome, Rickmansworth

The Rickmansworth Aquadrome consists of three lakes, Batchworth, Stockers and Bury lakes, which were created by the extraction of gravel which was actually used in the building of the first Wembley stadium. There are also parkland and wooded areas and is a good place for nice walks. Stockers Lake has a bird and wildlife sanctury.

 

Croxley Common Moor Local Nature Reserve

Croxley Common Moor is a local nature reserve which is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. There are in excess of 130 different types of plants and many ant hills created by yellow meadow ants on the Moor.

 

Three Rivers Museum

The Three Rivers Museum has displays documenting the archaeological and historic background of the area exhibits about William Penn and Moor Park Mansion . There are photographs from past and present and many articles given by local people.

 

Medieval Cultivation Terraces, Goldingtons Park , Sarratt

The Medieval cultivation terraces or ‘strip lynchets', at Goldingtons Park , Sarratt are considered to be some of the best examples in the county. They are thought to have been created during the 13th and 14th centuries, and are clearly visible following the contour of the hill. They measure about 20-30m wide and the best preserved are about a metre high.
