Denholme is situated in West Yorkshire and is on the route of the Roman road between Manchester and Ilkley. It may have started out as a small hamlet as early as the 1100s and was owned by Hugh de Thornton. It changed to the Tempest Family in the 1400s who then created a deer park which has long since gone.
