We carry out residential structural survey and commercial survey in Hatfield. Hatfield is a town which is situated in Hertordshire.
Hatfield is another town we often find ourselves in conducting structural building surveys. Hatfield is located in south Hertfordshire about 20 miles north of London. Hatfield has very good transport links with two airports not a great distance away (Luton and Stanstead) and good road and rail links.
In the Saxon era Hatfield was known as 'Hetfelle' and later became known as 'Haethfeld' around the time of 970 when King Edgar gave some of the land to the monastery of Ely. In 1226 Henry II granted the bishops of Ely the rights to hold a market each week and a yearly four day fair.
The town centre is very much two places in one, we have the old original town and the newer retail centre. The original town is now known as Old Hatfield. There are a number of historic buildings in the 'Old Hatfield' part of the town, such as The Old Palace which was built by the Bishop of Ely in 1497 under the reign of Henry VII. St Etheldreda's Church was built in 1285 and was constructed of wood. It is likely that the current church is situated on the site of the old wooden one. Hatfield House is the home of 7th Marquess and Marchioness of Salisbury, built in1611, by Robert Cecil, 1st Earl of Salisbury in fine Jacobean style. Before she became Queen, Elizabeth I was held in the Old Palace in Hatfield Park for three years. In 1558 it was here that she was told that she was to become Queen of England.
There are a variety of different styles and ages of property in the area. Hatfield was designated a New Town after WWII.
In years gone by it is famous for craft design and was the home of British Aerospace (which started way back in the 1930's and was the biggest employer in the area and the site where British Aerospace used to be located was used for Steven Spielberg's movie Saving Private Ryan) and this also accounts for much of the architecture from the 1920's although it is forever being revived and is very much characterised by its clean lines and what we would describe as uncomplicated and unfussy simple design.
Hatfield has a mixture of properties from the smaller cottages or apartments to larger substantial dwellings in Kentish Lane, Woodhill and Essendon.
If you are planning to book a building survey on a property you are purchasing in Hatfield or the surrounding area then we would like to assure you that we always send a suitably qualified and experienced surveyor to carry out the job. This ensures that you get expert advice on any issues that we may find with the property we are surveying. All our surveyors are members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors - RICS - and are Independent Chartered Building Surveyors. Being 'independent' means that they are working for you and you alone; they do not work for a mortgage company or an estate agents, so they have your best interests at heart.
All our survey contain lots of images, clearly showing any problems that we have identified at the property such as woodworm, rising damp or cracking to the walls. We also use sketches in our survey which are aimed at helping you to understand how certain areas are constructed or to help show more clearly a problem that we have identified. You will also find lots of definitions of any building terminology that we may use in our survey, as we firmly believe in 'Plain English' and really want you to fully understand what we are saying in the survey report.
