We carry out residential structural surveys and commercial surveys in Hatfield. Hatfield is located in south Hertfordshire about 20 miles north of London . Hatfield has very good transport links with two airports not a great distance away ( Luton and Stanstead) and good road and rail links.
In the Saxon era Hatfield was known as ‘Hetfelle' and later became known as ‘Haethfeld' around the time of 970 when King Edgar gave some of the land to the monastery of Ely. In 1226 Henry II granted the bishops of Ely the rights to hold a market each week and a yearly four day fair.
The original town is now known as Old Hatfield and this town established itself around the edge of Hatfield House. There are a number of historic buildings in the ‘Old Hatfield' part of the town, such as The Old Palace which was built by the Bishop of Ely in 1497 under the reign of Henry VII. St Etheldreda's Church was built in 1285 and was constructed of wood. It is likely that the current church is situated on the site of the old wooden one. The famous Hatfield House is steeped in English History. Before she became Queen, Elizabeth I was held in the Old Palace in Hatfield Park for three years. In 1558 it was here that she was told that she was to become Queen of England.
The de Havilland aircraft factory opened in Hatfield before World War II and built its famous aircraft in the town and eventually became known as British Aerospace. Following the end of the second world war there was a need for more housing nationally and because Hatfield had seen an influx of workers to the de Havilland factory and other commercial businesses, Hatfield was chosen as one of eight towns to become a ‘new town' on the outside edge of London.
British Aerospace closed its factory in Hatfield in 1992 and as they had been the area's biggest employer, it was a blow to the town. However, not to be daunted, Hatfield has continued to grow and develop and businesses have been drawn to the area. The University of Hertfordshire has expanded in the area and a Sports Village has been created, ensuring that the town is well catered for with leisure and sporting facilities.
As you will see from our example surveys below, our surveys are very detailed documents, which are written in plain English with lots of explanations of building terms and including sketches and digital photos which help to enable you to understand any problems identified and how to resolve it. We always give an 'Action Required' for any issues raised in the survey and also give you an idea of the ‘Anticipated Costs' involved in sorting out any problems we find.

'The Ugly' section draws your attention specifically to issues that we feel need to be resolved before you purchase the property, for example wet rot or dry rot or woodworm etc. We can also offer advice in our survey on whether a discount in the purchase price should be expected to cover any unexpected problems that may be identified.
