When we all think about Heathrow we automatically think of Heathrow Airport. The UK's busiest airport with approximately 64 million passengers per year, 90 airlines and around 170 destinations – Wow! Located approximately one mile from the Borough of Hillingdon the airport has excellent public transport links. Interesting facts:
In November 1983 6,800 gold bars worth approximately £26million were taken from a vault near Heathrow. Only two men were convicted and only a portion of the gold was recovered.
On the 18 December 2010 a significant snow fall (approximately 9cm) caused the entire airport to close, causing one of the biggest events at the airport of all time. Around 4,000 flights were cancelled over a five day period with 9,500 passengers having to spend the night at the airport.
