Kidsgrove falls within the Borough of Newcastle Under Lyme and is situated to the north west of Staffordshire. The town was built around an old mining community from the late 1700's.

Kidsgrove was the birthplace of the Spitfire designer Reginald Mitchell who was born in 1895 in Congleton Road , Butt Lane , Kidsgrove which now has a blue plaque to honour him on the house. The first prototype spitfire flew in March 1936, following which 20,000 were built which were active throughout World War II.
