Rainham village has been in existence for around 800 years and is centered round the Church of St Helen and St Giles. Recorded in the Domesday Book as Rainham in 1086.

Situated in the centre of the village is the old Clock Tower with its four faces. Built as a war memorial it is dedicated to remember those who lost their lives during the First World War. The Remembrance Day service continues to be held there every year.

Probably the most famous attraction in the area is the stylish Rainham Hall built in 1729 for a well known sea Captain John Harle. The house is now owned by the National Trust and has been tastefully restored. It is also blessed with a magnificent garden which is certainly worth a visit.

Local public houses in the area include the Bell Inn, The Phoenix offering accommodation as well as a live band every Saturday and the Angel Inn .

If you visit Rainham in May or December you may be lucky enough to find yourself amidst their twice yearly Victorian Fayre. Major roads in the area are closed and stalls are set up along the streets selling a variety of handmade items. It is truly a great day out and one that the community is extremely proud of.
