Information on Tenterden

The town of Tenterden is located just off the A28 and B2082 and near to the M20, it is surrounded by the villages of St Michaels to the north, Woodchurch to the east, Wittersham to the south and Benenden to the west.

Tenterden Golf Club was formed in 1905 and is located in beautiful surroundings with many players visiting the course throughout the year. The Golf club has an 18 hole course and has a large club house which is very welcoming to everyone that visits.

Tenterden Leisure Centre has a number of different classes/sessions taking place each week varying from swimming to dance, there is also a wonderful gym area which they have professional personal trainers on hand.

Tenterden is a charming town with cobbled alleyways and many historic buildings including the Georgian Town Hall , Medieval parish church of St Mildred and several timber framed buildings. Many of the buildings are Listed including the former farmhouse Pigeon Hoo in Preston Lane which is medieval with amendments in the 19 th and 20 th centuries and Leigh Green Farmhouse in Collison Place which is similarly medieval with various later amendments.

In the past the town was linked to the sea with Romney Marsh under water with vessels docking at Smallhythe and was a prosperous town with the wood from the Wealden Forest being used for ship building. Today the town is approximately ten miles from the coast without access to the sea and retains much of its charm with a wide tree lined High Street and delightful antique shops and tea rooms.
