PROPERTY AS AN INVESTMENT COURSE

THE COURSE AIM IS TO GIVE YOU A STRUCTURED UNDERSTANDING OF PROPERTY AS AN INVESTMENT.

KNOWLEDGE

We explain why many people have made money more by luck than judgment (even those who have buy-to-let properties or other investments). We talk about property booms and busts and what to look out for. As chartered surveyors we have seen the market go up as well as down, we have worked with investors and home buyers and helped them make money and/or minimise losses or make a loss!! We do this both in good and bad property markets, we do this day in day out. We feel we have learnt from our experiences and this can help you.

Quiz Question: Different property markets have different property returns, how do you establish what the typical yields are?

UNDERSTANDING

Many of us understand what to look for when buying a home - i.e Is it near where you work or your children go to school. But to consider property as an investment you need a much deeper understanding of what factors and attributes to consider. It should be remembered you are moving into a highly competitive market – you will often be competing against experts (or are they fools) pushing the property price too high?

Quiz Question: Name two of the main factors you should consider when buying a property for investment?

BALANCE

Many people have seen considerable increases in their home's value over the past few years, and have “made” considerable amounts of money – they may consider property as a get rich quick proposition. We offer a balanced view – property can also be a way to lose a lot of money.

Quiz Question: What is gearing?
