The World Heritage Site of the Jurassic Coast stretches through Dorset and East Devon totalling around 95 miles. The amazing coastline and wonderful countryside in the area make this a popular tourist location as well as an enviable place to live. Dorset and The New Forest have lots of castles in the area some of which are tourist attractions and some are homes. Corfe Castle, Lulworth Castle, Sherborne Castle and Maiden Castle to name but a few.

 

Brownsea Island is accessed by ferry from Poole or Sandbanks. The Island has a fascinating history with several private owners over the years until it was taken over by the National Trust in 1962. Its beautiful landscape is a haven for wildlife including the threatened red squirrel and a brilliant location for bird watching.

Brownsea is credited as being where boy scouts was established when Robert Baden-Powell organised a camping trip there for young boys in 1907. The Girl Guides were established soon after. The island is still a location used by scouting groups and The Baden Powell Outdoor Centre offers campsite, hostel and a fantastic selection of outdoor activities
