In the mid-1980s the government started a compensation scheme for properties that were designated as defective as it identified that it would have been impossible to establish if these houses were defective during the course of a survey or any other due diligence measures. From the information that we have this system of compensation was wound up in the mid-1990s. However we are well aware that properties are still sold as a non-traditional type so we do need to check the type of non-traditional property you have or you may be buying one that's just umortgageable or has no defects.
