Westminster

If you are thinking of moving to the Westminster Borough or the Westminster area or visiting it then we hope you find our view and review of the Westminster area interesting.

We are chartered surveyors, so our view of Westminster may be a bit property biased, but would you expect us to be anything else but property biased! We carry out surveys all over London , including building surveys, structural surveys, engineer's reports, of course we are happy to carry them out in Westminster . We have tried to put other interesting non-property facts about Westminster and the Westminster area, many of which we don't think you will find anywhere else on the Internet.

Advert for independent chartered surveyors

We have independent chartered surveyors who carry out building surveys, structural surveys and defects reports in Westminster and are very experienced and will give you peace of mind for your new home or commercial property. Westminster, a bit of fun

If you can, read these articles in the spirit they were written; that they were written for people that don't know the area. We would be more than happy to add any comments from the Westminster area and also any comments from Westminster locals who feel that we've missed out any important facts, or indeed if any of the facts we have put down are not accurate.

Ways to travel in the Westminster area

By Road

As with most areas of London there is a good road system, and famous red buses travel into the area with the dual carriageway on the A40 providing access into the Westminster area, which also goes past Paddington and Marylebone. This provides access from the West along with the A4 which runs just off the M4.

The M25 is some distance away but if you are travelling from the M25 then the M1 and the M4 offer good routes as does the A40 (also known as the Great West Road). The A406 North Circular which is Hanger Lane , Gunnersbury Avenue , Mortlake Road are fairly close by offering the A40 Westway, the A3220 Westcross Road and Holland Road and the A5 which is Park Lane . Other major roads in the area are Bayswater Road , Kensington Road , Knightsbridge, Sloane Square , Brompton Road , Kings Road . The town is also rumoured to have a football club somewhere in the area. Other major roads in the area are Victoria Street , Horseferry Road and Marsham Street , Vauxhall Bridge Road , Eccleston Street , Warwick Way, Westminster Bridge , Lambeth Palace Road , Albert Embankment, Millbank, Abingdon Street.

By Tube

Tube links include Piccadilly Line, Northern Lines, Bakerloo, Metropolitan, Jubilee and Victoria with nearby tube stations at Westminster , Pimlico , Victoria , Charing Cross, Embankment, Piccadilly Circus, Green Park and Hyde Park .

By Rail

Kings Cross, Victoria and Caring Cross

This area is also covered by the excellent Google Street View, where you can literally walk along the road.

Famous people that were born, have lived, or are living in the Westminster Area

There are many famous residents and ex-residents of the Westminster area, mainly because its relation with the government and medical expertise ( Harley Street is based here).

Many doctors and famous politicians, such as William Davidson and William Cuffay, have been associated with the area.

The Surveyors of our firm have met famous writers around the Soho area that still live here today from as far back at the early 1900's, have things changed since then!

Famous buildings we have not surveyed!

There are many famous prestigious buildings, such as the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. It is unlikely that we will get to survey these as we believe they have their own surveyors! However we would be happy to do them.

Also, the University of Westminster would be great and the Capital Radio Buildings!

Unfortunately we haven't been able to come up with any other really famous buildings in the Westminster Borough area, so anyone who knows any please phone or e-mail us, we are sure we can sort out some sort of prize.

We would add that as with many areas of London it has a mass of Victorian and Georgian houses, which may up the majority of the housing stock in the area, with some newer developments for the after war building took place, replacing bomb damaged houses and some housing with 1960 post-war built houses. We are more than happy to carry out building surveys, structural surveys, engineers reports on these properties to give you a clear idea of any problems that you may be buying when you buy your new house.

Things to do in the Westminster area

This is probably the borough in London with most things to do than any other! Just to name a few are the houses of Parliament, Royal Parks, Buckingham Palace, Bustle of Oxford Street with the best shopping street in London, The extraordinary market of Covent Garden, Boutiques of Soho and Carnaby Street, Towering department stores, Theatres, Bars and Restaurants, (our surveyors seem to get very busy after Surveys here), and its not a surprise they can purchase old records, market shop and eat sushi!
