Merle Amory was the first black woman to become leader of Brent Council in 1986.
Alperton
Alperton, in the London Borough of Brent was once a famous area for stag-hunting.
Today Alperton has one of the capitals best Asian shopping areas.
Alperton is a place targeted for change by Brent Council and the vision is to bring more new homes to the area and to open up the local stretch of the Grand Union Canal to make Alperton a more desirable place to live.
Dollis Hill
Dollis Hill was farmland until the 18 th century and today remains a quiet London suburb.
The well-known Dollis Hill House', once a lovely mansion where Gladstone, a once British Prime Minister stayed overlooks Gladstone Park' and was built for the Finch Family' in 1825 but was damaged by fire in 1996.
Gladstone Park' is a beautiful green space in Dollis Hill which is enjoyed by many.
Dollis Hill Lane, within walking distance of Gladstone Park is just one of the places here where we as Surveyors have carried out Structural Surveys.
St Andrews Hospital in Dollis Hill was built in 1912 by the Diocese of Westminster and became a military hospital in 1914.
Harlesden
Once a Saxon Settlement Harlesden is today a very diverse area in Brent Borough and has a large African-Caribbean Community.
The area attracts many young professionals and has some trendy bars and clubs.
The Jubilee Clock' is a focal point in Harlesden and was erected for Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee' in 1887 and still stands today.
Audley Harrison and James Degale the boxers are both from Harlesden.
The lovely residential road of Sellons Avenue near to leafy Roundwood Park is a place where we as Surveyors have carried out many building surveys.
Kensal Green
Kensal Green is a residential area in London which is well-known for its cemetery. The beautiful cemetery was founded in 1833 and is set in 72 acres. The cemetery has two conservation areas and an adjoining canal. The cemetery has a mix of large mausoleums and smaller graves and has three chapels.
The quiet residential street of Pember Road is just one of the areas we have visited as Surveyors to carry out residential building surveys.
Kensal Rise
Kensal Rise is a multicultural area in the London Borough of Brent
and is an area we have visited many times as Surveyors to carry out residential building surveys.
Next to Kensal Green the two areas are often known as one.
Kensal Rise is home to the ‘Lexi Cinema', a digital cinema housed in an Edwardian building. As well as main stream releases the cinema also shows screen classics.
Kenton
Kenton is an affluent area in the London Borough of Brent.
Once farmland, the name Kenton' derives from the Anglo-Saxon the farm of the sons of Coena'
The area has a large Asian community.
The beautiful Shree Kutch Satsang Sawminarayan Temple' is in Kenton and is a place where we as Surveyors have enjoyed visiting.
Kilburn
‘Little Eire' as it is sometimes known due to its strong Irish connections is home to the famous ‘Tricycle Theatre' on Kilburn High Road. Opened in 1980 the Tricycle offers lots of challenging theatre including political plays.
Kingsbury
Kingsbury is a residential area in Brent Borough
just 20 minutes from central London
and is home to the lovely Fryent Country Park'. Over 100 hectares in size the park has woodland, ponds and hay meadows.
St Andrews Church' in Kingsbury was moved here brick by brick in 1933 from Wells street in central London and is an interesting place to visit.
Kingsbury is well linked with motor manufacturing with Austin, Bentley and British Leyland being just some of the British brands produced here.
Old Church Lane and Salmon Street are just two of the areas here where we as Surveyors have carried out Building Surveys also sometimes known as Structural Surveys.
Mapesbury
Mapesbury is a residential area and has one of the largest conservation areas in the Brent Borough.
Mapesbury has many townhouses built between 1895 and 1905 and large semi- detached houses. The wide streets in Mapesbury give this area a rather open' feel.
As Surveyors we have carried out Building Surveys in Teignmouth Road in Mapesbury and also the lovely tree lined Chatsworth Road.
Neasden
Neasden, meaning nose-shaped hill' once had a population of around 100 people but today is a very populated area and is a place where we as Surveyors regularly visit to carry out building surveys.
The Shri Swaminarayan Mandir', the largest Hindu temple outside of India is here in Neasden. Marble and limestone from Italy and Bulgaria were carved by craftsmen in India to create this amazing temple. Dedicated to Bhagwan Swaminarayan the temple is said to have cost £12 million to build and is a fantastic place to visit. The temple has a dress code of no revealing or short clothes.
Another interesting place to visit in Neasden is Churchill's underground bunker. This bomb proof bunker is forty feet below ground and has 37 rooms.
Twiggy', the English model and actress was born in Neasden in 1949.
Park Royal
Park Royal is an industrial area in the London Borough of Brent and is home to the likes of the Mcvities' and Heinz' companies.
Park Royal is a place we as Surveyors have visited many times to carry out commercial building surveys.
Preston
Preston meaning the farm belonging to the priest' was once a rural area.
The family of John Lyons', the founder of Harrow School once owned a farm here.
Today Preston is a residential area which has retained some of its original character and is a place we have carried out many building surveys.
Stonebridge
Stonebridge is home to the iconic ‘Ace Cafe' which attracts up to 30,000 bikers during the summer months. The Ace Café closed in 1969 but was reopened again in 2002. The café is a meeting place for bikers from around the world with lots of planned events and is also a place where you can get married!
Queens Park
Queens Park, once a run-down area of London has seen much regeneration recently.
The area now attracts people looking for affordable housing and has some beautiful Edwardian and Victorian properties which are of much interest to us as Surveyors.
Queens Park has a good selection of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants.
Queens Park Farmers Market held every Sunday attracts many people. The food market has a fantastic range of stalls selling poultry, fish, fruit and vegetables, bread and cakes, cooked local food and cheese and diary as well as plants and flowers.
The beautiful Queens Park' itself has been awarded a Green Flag' for more than 10 years running. In 1879 the park was opened for the Royal Agricultural Exhibition' but today is used by locals wanting to enjoy the facilities the park has to offer which include tennis courts, pitch and putt, an ornamental garden, café and children's play area.
The Islamia Girls Secondary School' is in Queens Park. It is a private faith school for girls age 11 16 and is one of three schools founded by Yusuf Islam', formerly known as Cat Stevens', the singer/songwriter.
Brondesbury Park, a very sought after area that joins Queens Park and Willesden Green is just one of the places we as Surveyors have visited to carry out Residential Building Surveys.
Sudbury
Leafy Sudbury meaning Southern Manor' is a residential area in the London Borough of Brent and is a place where we have carried out many residential and commercial building surveys.
Sudbury has some interesting shops and good bars and restaurants.
Tokyngton
Tokyngton meaning the farm of the sons of Toca' is a residential area in the London Borough of Brent and is a place we have visited many times as Surveyors to carry out residential building surveys.
Tokyngton has many Edwardian terraces and 1930's semi-detached houses.
Welsh Harp
The Welsh Harp' named after a local pub is one of London's largest lakes. It was created in the 1830's and became a popular fishing resort and a place for boating.
The Welsh Harp is a haven for wildlife and has one of the largest nesting colonies of great crested grebes' in the UK.
Wembley
Wembley in the London Borough of Brent is known worldwide for being the home of English football.
Wembley Stadium' was where England won the world cup in 1966.
The Live Aid' concert organised by Bob Geldof was held at the stadium in 1985.
The stadium was renovated and re-opened in 2007 and now has 90,000 seats, 34 bars and 8 restaurants. A 133 metre tall arch which is lit for major events and special occasions can be seen across London.
Wembley Arena', a major entertainment venue opened in 1934 as the Empire Pool and Sports Arena' and hosted the 1948 Olympics. Famous names such as The Beatles', The Rolling Stones', Stevie Wonder' and Madonna' have all played at the arena.
Connecting Wembley Town Centre to Wembley Stadium is ‘White Horse Bridge'. The bridge was designed by Marks Barfield, the London Eye architects. This impressive structure was named after the white police horse from 1923 that restored order at the FA Cup Final.
As Surveyors we have carried out many building surveys in the Wembley area including Eagle Road and Westbury Avenue.
Willesden
Until approximately 1875 Willesden was a rural area but is today a busy place.
The area attracts a lot of first time buyers, families and young professionals and has some lovely Victorian properties.
Roundwood Park which was named after the now destroyed Roundwood House mansion is a place we love to visit to take a break when carrying out building surveys in the area. Oliver Claude Robertson was the main architect of Roundwood Park which has a café, aviary, model railway, bowling green and more than 14,500 beautiful shrubs and trees.
Willesden has a great sports centre complete with swimming pool, indoor and outdoor running track, gym, dance studio and health suite.
Brent Museum in Willesden Green is an interesting place to visit to find out more about the history and culture of the area. The Olympic torch from the 1948 Olympic Games has its home here.
The lovely St Marys Church in Willesden has a spring flowing underneath from where visitors can sample the Holy Water'.
Dewsbury Road is just one of the places here where we as Surveyors have carried out a structural survey sometimes also known as a building survey.
