Where in London is Hillingdon?
Hillingdon is situated in the area we would class as Outer London. It is within the M25 but outside the North Circular; the A406, so it is far closer to the M25.
Surrounding areas include Uxbridge to the west, Ruislip and West Ruislip to the north and Denham to the north-west, Yielding to the east and Hayes and West Croydon to the south.
We carry out surveys, structural surveys and building surveys on all sorts of buildings all over London and we have carried out lots in the Hillingdon area.
A bit further afield
A bit further afield is Maple Cross, West Hyde, Harefield, High Denham, Ruislip, Eastcote and Pinner to the north, North Harrow, South Harrow, Greenhill, Brent Cross, Kingsbury, Willesden, Hanwell, Ealing, Acton and Sudbury to the east. Below the M4 are Heathrow and Heathrow Airport , Stanwell, Ashford, Wraysbury, Poyle, Colnbrook, Horton, Datchet, Windsor , Eton, Slough . To the west are Stoke Poges , Farnham Royal, Burnham and Maidenhead.

Ways to travel in the Hillingdon area
By Road
The main roads around Hillingdon and the Hillingdon area are the M25, the M4 and the M40, which becomes the A40, known as West Way or Western Avenue . This goes through nearby Northolt and then onwards into Perivale and the Ealing areas (please see our article on Ealing). Hillingdon is effectively in a corridor between the M4 to the south and the M40/A40 to the north.
Just to reiterate; the main roads in the area are the A4020, which is the Hillingdon Road and the Uxbridge Road , the A437, which is Long Lane. There is also the A437, also called Harlington Road and Dawley Road and the A408, which is Cowley Road and then the High Road.
By Rail
Railways nearby are Uxbridge tube, which is at the end of the tube line, West Drayton, Hayes and Harlington railway stations.
By Tube
There are no tube stations in this area.
This area is also covered by the excellent Google Street View, where you can literally walk along the road.

Interesting fact about Hillingdon area number one
Close by is RAF Uxbridge. This is, we are advised, the place where all the defence for London and the South East of England took place during the war years, with the group being based at Hillingdon House, and which once formed part of the county estate that eventually became RAF Uxbridge.

Hillingdon History
The London Borough of Hillingdon came into existence in the 1965 under the London Government Act of 1963.
It is the western most Borough of Greater London.
We would refer you to the London Borough of Hillingdon.gov.uk website, which says there are over 600 properties and sites that are of historical architectural importance.

Some of grade II listed buildings exist here in conservation areas, Denham has a host of pubs that date back to the 16 th and 17 th Century and in fact some Surveys have been carried out here already.
Unfortunately we haven't been able to come up with any other really famous buildings in Hillingdon or the Hillingdon area, so anyone who knows any please phone or e-mail us, we are sure we can sort out some sort of prize.
We would add that as with many areas of London it has a mass of Victorian and Georgian houses, which may up the majority of the housing stock in the area, with some newer developments for the after war building took place, replacing bomb damaged houses and some housing with 1960 post-war built houses. We are more than happy to carry out building surveys, structural surveys, engineers reports on these properties to give you a clear idea of any problems that you may be buying when you buy your new house.

Looking in the Hillingdon and Uxbridge Times is a good start. This usually has guides on what is going on, or you can refer to a website, such as Mad About Hillingdon, or London For Kids.net.
We would recommend the Hillingdon Outdoor Activities Centre, Harvil Road , Harefield, Uxbridge, where they do lots of activities based around water sports.
