Brixton
Brixton in the borough of Lambeth is the home of the famous Brixton Academy ' in Stockwell Road . This is a fantastic music venue and frequent winner of the NME Best Venue' award. With its amazing art deco interior it houses almost 5,000 giving a fantastic atmosphere.
Brixton is also well known for its market which has been a key feature since 1870 and has one of Europe 's largest Afro-Caribbean food selections.
The Ritzy' cinema, one of England 's earliest purpose built cinemas is also in Brixton and was built in 1911.
Clapham
Clapham in South London is split across two boroughs of London . Lambeth' which has Clapham North and Clapham Common and Wandsworth', home to Clapham Junction, Clapham South and Northcote Road area.
Clapham Common is home to one of the best public parks in London , a fantastic place that can be enjoyed all year round. It has the biggest bandstand in London . Clapham Common offers festivals in mid-summer and a free fireworks display in November and it also has a regular fair. The common is surrounded by bars, cafes and restaurants.
Clapham has seen an influx of young professionals over recent years, which reflects in the high house prices.
Clapham has a busy nightlife with a good selection of bars and restaurants to suit every taste.
Herne Hill
Herne Hill has a mixture of traditional pubs and restaurants which stand alongside trendy bars and boutiques. It is a desirable area to live with Victorian and Edwardian housing.
Herne Hill is home to Brockwell Park ' which was opened as a public park in 1892 by Lord Roseberry. Brockwell Hall' is a Grade II listed Georgian Country house which stands in the centre of the park. It was built for John Blades, a wealthy Ludgate Hill glass maker between 1811 and 1813 and today serves as a refreshment place for the park users.
Vauxhall
Vauxhall stands on the south side of the Thames in central London .
During World War II the district was destroyed and remains now for most people a transport location and not a prominent residential area.
Vauxhall is popular with the gay community and has a selection of gay bars and clubs.
West Norwood
West Norwood is a residential suburb in the borough of Lambeth with lots of green spaces such as the 33 acre West Norwood Park '. Dog-free children's play areas, a games court, a wildlife community garden and picnic areas are all there to be enjoyed. The park offers some amazing views across South London due to it being situated on high ground.
Kennington
Kennington is world famous for the Oval Cricket Ground' where many county and test cricket matches are played.
Kennington is mainly a residential area that has grand Georgian houses, terraced properties, ex local authority flats and modern builds.
Kennington has a good selection of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants.
Yoruba' and Portuguese' are the main languages spoken in the borough after English.
Charlie Chaplin' was born in Kennington in 1889.
South Bank
Beside the Thames and defined by many as the riverside stretch between Blackfriars Bridge and Westminster Bridge South Bank is a lively place with great attractions such as the Oxo -Towers restaurant and gallery, the London Eye and the National Theatre that hosts award winning shows. The South Bank is a great place to stroll and enjoy some of London 's sights.
Streatham
Once a rural village, Streatham is today full of entertainment. From indoor karting to the Streatham Ice Arena which has been welcoming visitors for over 75 years.
Streatham Common is the green area of Streatham and is used by people wanting to enjoy the great outdoors. The famous Streatham Kite Festival' is held here.
Streatham has many restaurants, bars and clubs.
Lambeth
The historic Lambeth Palace ' the official London residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury sits on the bank of the River Thames. It has been the residence of the various Archbishops for nearly 800 years.
The world famous St Thomas Hospital ' is also in Lambeth , it is situated on the south bank of the Thames opposite the Houses of Parliament'.
Stockwell
Stockwell up until the early 1800's consisted of a few houses around a village green. Today Stockwell has one of the largest Portuguese communities in London and Stockwells South Lambeth Road', is often called Little Portugal' due to the number of businesses there owned by the Portuguese.
The Stockwell War Memorial and Clocktower, built in 1921 is still used by the people of Lambeth for remembrance.
