Party Walls etc ACt 1996

Speaker Alex M. Frame Chartered Building Surveyor MSc, MRICS, FSAI, FFPWS, FCIOB, MCMI

Considered to be one of the most accomplished party wall surveyors of the modern era.

Party Wall book: Misunderstandings and Guidances

Book Review:

The purpose of this book is to highlight some of the misunderstandings and mistakes that are commonly made in the implementation of what can be a perplexing piece of legislation. The advice is not absolute there are too many grey areas and anomalies in the Act itself for that but it is easy to read, factual, to the point and comes from a highly experienced and accomplished party wall surveyor in Alex M. Frame.

Week Five

The Rising Damp Myth

Speaker: Jeff Howell, Bricklayer, Chartered Builder and Chartered Building Surveyor

Writes for Sunday Telegraph and Presents regularly on TV, including Channel 4's Don't blame the builder.

Author: includes Sunday Telegraph Guide to looking after your property, DIY & Home Maintenance for Dummies, The Builders' White Boots and Other Stories and The Rising Damp Myth.

Book Review:

This book is indispensible reading for house sellers, buyers, surveyors, property professionals and construction students. It describes how rising damp has been promoted as a marketing device by the chemical damp-proofing industry and explains the simple steps that every homeowner can take to make sure they are not bamboozled by surveyors or ripped off by damp proofing companies.

Channel 4 TV programme review Don't blame the builder

As one sighed, the other yelled, and Jeff, a seemingly nice bloke, looked quite frequently like he wanted to slap the lot of them and get down the pub for a brown ale. Sadly, you can't do that on TV anymore!
